Safety Tips
Effective October 3, 2026
Most people on DateCN are here for the same reasons you are. These tips help you stay safe while you get to know someone, online and in person.
Protect your money
- Never send money, gift cards or cryptocurrency, or share bank or card details — no matter how convincing the story (emergencies, travel costs, customs fees, medical bills).
- Be wary of anyone who talks about investments, trading platforms or 'guaranteed' returns. This is the most common romance scam.
- Report anyone who asks you for money. You won't get in trouble, and you may protect someone else.
Protect your personal information
- Keep chatting on DateCN until you feel you know someone. Scammers often push to move to other apps quickly.
- Don't share your home or work address, ID documents, passwords or verification codes.
- Be careful with photos and video calls that could be recorded; never share intimate images.
Watch for warning signs
- Professions that keep someone away (military abroad, offshore engineer, doctor overseas) combined with excuses not to video call.
- Declaring strong feelings very quickly, inconsistent stories, or pressure and urgency.
- Asking you to keep the relationship secret or to move off the platform.
Meeting in person
- Video call first, and take your time before meeting.
- Meet in a busy public place, arrange your own transport and stay in control of your drinks and belongings.
- Tell a friend where you're going, who you're meeting and when you'll be back.
- If you travel to meet someone abroad, book your own accommodation and keep your passport and return ticket with you.
- Trust your instincts — you can leave at any time.
